MDA Data Analytics Development

Client

An American telecom company with operations in 23 states and about $4 billion in annual revenues. The company provides high-speed Internet, high-definition digital TV and phone services. The company also offers a wide range of IP-based voice and data services and advanced phone systems and equipment to businesses and government agencies.

Project Overview & Objectives

The client’s Revenue Assurance group needed a Martin-Dawes Analytics (MDA) system developed to parse switch poll reports and provide management reconciliation reporting, in order to ensure that the company was billing for all the services being used by customers and not losing revenue. The project goal was to replace slower manual work and Microsoft Access with a faster, automated, enterprise quality system.

Our Involvement

Synaptitude developed a parsing graph to obtain the details necessary to reconcile the data. There are 13 different types of reports, which are provided daily from each switch. The reports represent switch poll data for different switch locations detailing the number of calls, number of drops, billable records, etc. Additional reports represent records from the ratings vendor to determine what information was completed and dropped. In addition to delivering the reconciliation graph, Synaptitude developed and delivered system documentation regarding the parsing of the data. During the course of the engagement Synaptitude worked closely with client management and Martin-Dawes Analytics.

Results and Benefits

As a result of this project, the client’s system has been improved to replace manual work and an existing non-enterprise level Microsoft Access database. It now takes just minutes to run through the graphs and produce outputs. The client can also now use all the additional data in these reports that have been parsed to import into their existing databases to provide further analysis.
